Yukon Arctic Ultra- report by Ray Zahab winner of 100 mile footrace

The Yukon Arctic Ultra organised by Robert Pollhammer is definitely the toughest race I have ever competed in! Not only was the distance and terrain challenging, but the beauty and
remoteness of the Yukon made it an awesome event.

My race plan was to run as much as possible, stopping only briefly to relieve myself or emergency bivvy. As it turned out, I did stop twice- once for 10 minutes and once for 15 minutes. ( 2 mins of sleep total!)

I tried to keep my pace relatively quick. My goal was to be in Braeburn in under 30 hours. Trail conditions were awesome minus the overflow and "powder"conditions for the last 50km or so. I basically followed Rocky's tracks and arrived into Braeburn at 4.30pm. My running time was 24.5 hours for the 160km event. I was elated to be the first racer in after Rocky into checkpoint 3! I can tell you that Rocky rode about everything (judging from the tracks I saw!)

Thanks to Robert for organising such a great event. All the competitors in this race were friendly, amazing people. I learned lots from this gang of ultra racers.
