Meanwhile out on the course, British racer Luke Cunliffe has reached the control at Fred Lake, where he arrived just some 30 minutes before Steve Bowron (UK)departed. Fred Lake lies about 32 miles from Carmack, so they both may not reach Carmacks for some time. It has been snowing lightly most of the day and the current temperature is around -15c. It is bound to drop substantially tonight.
The rest of the 300 mile field are doing well, though Akker Wilko from the Netherlands is suffering from breathing difficulties as a result of the cold temperatures. He insists however that he is strong enough to continue.
With the prospect of a cold night ahead, it is hard to predict if there will be any more casualties during the night. What tremendous tenacity they have all shown thus far.
